Years ago when I was just married and put in as president of the Young Women at church, I observed an interesting pattern evolve. For Youth Conference we always worked several hours on some kind of physical service project. I observed relationships building, communication and bonding developing, and I knew this was a good thing. The physical act of service provided a mental and heart-felt giving attitude. Jim and I decided we would pattern our family around this serving others idea. Gather everyone together and work on something meaningful was the plan--maybe more meaningful than the actual project was the communications, relationships, and bonding. However, the project needed to be something worth while and not just busy work. Thus the idea of our family service projects was born. Then after the project, we partied together, played together, ate together, felt accomplished together, and grateful to be a family together. When the service helped someone out, whether in the family or someone down the street, we talked about how good it feels to help others.
"To love someone, serve them."
Thanks famLea for being so full of love to help each other with a willing heart and giving attitude.
What family service project do you remember? What are your ideas for future projects?

My most memorable project is the "POSSUM" Story while serving with dad clearing out Grandma Clara's house after she died. See my Blog for details
I love your theory on this and Robert and I hope to adopt it into our own famLea some day. That was a great memory... cleaning up the garage in 15 minutes. Fun pictures, too.
